Well, some progress.
Car is booked in for next week. However, I've been offered a free courtesy car and a reduced rate service for my wife's X Type in lieu of paying for the damage to my door. You might think that sounds fair, except I don't need a courtesy car - my car only travels to local shows or to Nottingham for its annual service. Also, my wife isn't too keen on going back there after what's happened. I'm going to see what the bodyshop has to say for itself tomorrow, I will decide on my actions after that. I have to say I still favour going it alone with people I trust.
Why can't people just hold up their hands and admit a mistake? My plans of buying one of the new XJs (if they're not the horrible S Class clones in the press) have all but disappeared. I'll either stick with this if I can get it sorted once and for all or just try and find a nice Mk 2 (can't get out of an E Type with any dignity!).
Patrick, I expect my repairs have been sanctioned so quickly because Jaguar have got involved - hope you get everything sorted out soon.

Looks like Jaguar have followed Royles lead now, I can never speak with anyone, just get a secretary to take my number with a promise to have someone ring me back. But they never do...
Looks like this is my last modern Jaguar. No point in having a warranty if it isn't honoured.

Finally, car is back & looking good.
Bad points: 1. Even though I delivered the car myself, it has miraculously gained 27 miles and lost quite a lot of fuel - draw your own conclusions. 2. I foolishly left my headlamp protectors on having been assured that the car was to be looked after, but alas one has been broken. I can fix it, but I'm annoyed. 3. Perhaps the most annoying thing is that my programmed seats were messed with, I was almost crushed to death having pressed M1 (my setting) I found M2 to be altered too. I don't know, maybe the battery was disconnected??? 4. For some unknown reason, my badge was removed from the rear panel but not replaced in the correct place. I know this as I recently bought a new number plate and changed the badge to match the plate. I spent ages making a template to align the new badge, and it no longer fits the template. By the way, the rear panel wasn't sprayed as the decal I applied on the other side is still there (it didn't need spraying anyway).
I was expected to pay for the 'private' work before even seeing the car, which was never going to happen, my working-class background maybe. But I don't hand over cash until seeing the goods!
Oh well, still time to enjoy the remaining summer - think positive,

As the original author of this thread, I'm sorry to hear that others are having the same problems, and really hope that Jaguar has sorted out these issues on the New XJ...
Anyway, as I revisit this thread, I discover that my car now has a second patch of corrosion: in a similar spot to the first, but on the opposite side of the car. I'll be taking my vehicle into the dealership in a couple of hours for them to investigate.
Good job that I spotted this: the bodywork warranty expires in just six weeks...
For the record, my XJ8 has now covered some 76,500 miles in almost six years (all driven by me).
Best regards, David

Took my 2004 XJ into dealers yesterday as had corrosion on drivers rear wing under back screen. Was told when I picked the car up the corrosion was signficant and they needed the service managers approval before the repairs went ahead, who was out of the office yesterday. I'm wondering if they will try to get of out doing the repairs and what my best course of action would be if they tried this.
Cheers

If your dealer is as bad as mine, just go straight through Jaguar Customer Services, it wasn't plain sailing, but it got sorted eventually. I was going to post a link to the contact page, but everything's changed - shouldn't be too hard to find though.
You'll need your VIN number handy, if you take this course.
And to David Palmer, nice to hear from you again. Glad to know that the car is still going strong albeit with the bad news of more corrosion. Your dealer seems to be on top of things though, so you probably don't have cause for concern. We must try a re-run of the meet-up day again (especially as I missed the last one).

Hi Dave,
I too has discovered corrosion problems on the rear window above the boot (curbside) and halfway up on the off-side on my 2003 Super V8.
I went to my local dealers Friday 7 August to get information on what needs to be done and they stated the following:
1. The damage needs welding and this can only be performed at specialist repair centers.
2. They would not touch it as it will come back after a few days/ weeks and in some cases months.
Upon reading the information on this web side I checked when the warranty runs out and that is on the 14th, so being the 9th caught it with only days to go...
I will be visiting my Jaguar dealer tomorrow (they will get an e-mail now) to report the issue.
MANY THANKS TO THIS FORUM AND TO YOU ALL WHO CONTRIBUTE !!!
Best Regards Robert

Having had the corrosion repaired 3 times in the last 6 months Jaguar have told me they will not stand over the repairs anymore because the car is out of warranty. The Jaguar dealership will not repair the panels again as they cannot stop the corrosion coming back, they what to replace the panels. I would have thought Jaguar or the dealership should have given at least 12 months warranty on the repair, maybe the panels should have been replaced at the beginning of the problem or is this away of Jaguar cutting corners by giving a quick fix for a month or two until the warranty is up. This corrosion must be the biggest issue with these cars, Jaguar would need to address the problem and get there heads out of the sand! Good luck with your repairs but count on them lasting.
Regards Patrick.

The repairs are only as good as the repairers.
My car runs out of warranty in November, but I'm not overly concerned as I know I can rely on these guys http://www.jagrestoration.com/.
What makes me annoyed is that I've had to pay for repairs that should have been done gratis. I sympathise with all who have posted on this forum, it proves to me that Jaguar have a very vague idea as to what customer service is supposed to be. It helps me walk away from the brand with no regrets. I've had the customer service satisfaction questionaire waiting to be filled in for several weeks, I've not filled it in as I was brought up to not say anything if you can't find anything nice to say. Maybe I should do it to help others if not for myself.
Good luck to all those still waiting for a result.

Just a quick note to say that my second patch of corrosion has now been repaired. My dealer - Guy Salmon Jaguar, Oxford - had the car for about a week, and have done an excellent job. No trace of the corrosion at all. They also carried out the Safety Recall work (relating to possible ruptured brake pipes), my 80,000-mile service, and an MOT.
Best regards, David

Hi, I was wondering, about this. CORROSION GUARD Electronic Rust Protection System. Would it work, it is galvanic corrosion. between dissimilar metals. Anyone know anything about it. I have always shunned, the to good to be true stuff. but I really would like to preserve my Jaguar's body.

Hi All,
Well, Jaguar declined to correct as my Dealer very kindly made sure to point out that no penetration had occured and as such, Jaguar was off the hook.
The other dealer who would have carried out the repair for them was taking a more flexible approach.
So, the car has to be repaired at my cost...
Best Regards Robert

I had bubbling paintwork under the rear screen (as photo at start of this topic), on adjacent edge of boot and rear edge of N/S rear door. I took it in to Royles of Wilmslow (where I bought the car 'used' just over 2 years ago) about 6 weeks before the 6 year warranty ran out. So 100,000 miles and 6 years old....and Jaguar fixed the problem free of charge.
I am totally satisfied with the way Royles and Jaguar dealt with the problem, and the bodyshop they used have done a spectacular job. OK, so I was without my car for a week but that's a minor discomfort for getting the work done under warranty (they did give me a courtesy car).
Thank you Jaguar, Royles of Wilmslow and Blue Bell Body Shop.
