At the risk of boring everyone rigid, here's the latest update on my "Air Suspension Fault" saga. Apparently, after discussions with Jaguar, my dealership has ordered a new air suspension pump. I'll let you know how I get on once this is fitted.

Best regards,
David

Hi Dave,
This is my first winter with the XJR so I can't comment on your trunk problem yet. I did have a strange problem with the glove box this weekend. After using the Valet lockout feature. I later opened the glove box and no matter what I did after that it would not stay closed!!!! After a day of trying and endless button pressing the latch works again. Go figure

I hope the airpump does the trick for you. In any event after pulling everything out and reinstalling the chances are that the problem will go away.

On a slightly different topic, I've been having problems with the boot (trunk) lid freezing - welded in place by frost! It can take quite a bit of effort to open it in the morning (and I mean repeated presses of the key fob "boot lid release" button, followed by much pushing and shoving of the boot lid - quite comical really). Is this a common problem in colder climates?

Short answer... Yes. The problem is this... as you know the XJ has the boot auto close feature which is activated when the boot is almost closed. So, when the lid is frozen shut... lid frozen to sealing rubber... you press the key to unlock it, but it doesn't open and the auto close feature says hey, I'm closed and so immediately locks it again. Bit daft really, but that's the way it is and so you end up in this press/tug battle until eventually you yank it open at just the right time to stop the auto close closing it again.

I seem to remember reading at the launch how the car was tested for millions of miles in extreme conditions. Seems to me someone forgot to try and open the boot.

Regards,

A quick update on my air suspension problems. The garage has now fitted a new compressor pump (and given the car a nice wash too!). So far, so good...

Best regards,
David

David,

This message was a long time ago, so I wondered if the new compressor fixed the problem. The amber warning message comes on for me when its cold outside. It came on when we had the cold snap in England in mid November so I booked the car in for a service and got them to look into the warning light. Of course, as luck would have it, the day of the service was the warmest day of the week and so they couldn't reproduce the fault. They suggested changing the compressor, but the service manager at the dealer wouldn't guarantee that this would fix the problem.

I had noticed when I have run the car in the cold and the yellow light comes on, if I park the car and return to it in time for the engine still to be warm, the light doesn't come back on. I was surprised to learn that the pump is in the boot though, I guess it adds up because I first noticed it after changing a puncture, I suppose I must have clonked it when I lifted out the full size spare.

Hi, this message appears by me as well. After switching off the engine - waiting ca 1 hour the message dissapears. I did not recognize any difference, just message on or off. If it is serious problem, I would not rather drive. But I do.

Hi Jon,

Just to confirm that, since the new compressor was fitted (almost exactly two years ago), I haven't had any air suspension warnings. Lots of other issues, and have fun trying to open the frozen boot in the mornings, but you'll read about these problems elsewhere on this site.

Enjoy your car,
Best regards,
David

Yes have got the same warning,"air suspension fault" And it occurs about a mile down the road.
I have brought a new air compressor, will fit shortly. 2004 XJR, 30.000K With 20 inch wheels. The suspension at low speeds is far worse than my 96 Ford wagon. and I have smoke on start up, not sure where from yet, will fix one fault at a time.

David,

The only message I get from time to time is - warning vehicle too low -. However this only crops up when the car has been left for a few weeks. I use the car very infrequently in almost two years the car has covered barely 4,600 miles So presumably the air reserve tank is empty when I start the car and is unable to raise the suspension for the first minute or so when the car is started.

It should not make any difference, because the compressor cycles on
When left for 24 hours.

Keith

Have finished, Fantastic to work on, anyone actually seen underneath a Jaguar.? The pipe that supply's air to the tank in the boot, is very, very, small, smaller than the tube in a ball point pen. I wonder if this pipe was made a little bigger, Less,"Air suspension fault" would occur.

Having both the compressor and one air shock replaced by the dealer. This compressor is major upset for me as the unit is expensive. The rear shock is even worst at over 1000Pounds before discount while the compressor is about 500pounds. I cannot understand why Jaguar would not do a recall re the compressor as i understand these units are sent back to Jaguar fro re-con. Double rip-off...
