My XJ is 6 years old this year and now out of the extended warranty etc. I'm planning on keeping it until it falls to pieces or becomes a collectors item and so I'd like to find a good independent that can take over the care of it.

Unfortunately I live in the middle of nowhere in Wiltshire.

Does anyone know of any good independents in the Wilts, Oxon, Bath, Bristol or even Dorset areas?

Dave,

I have used two independants in Wiltshire, one is Townsend's in Broughton Gifford (near Melksham) and the other is Fiddes in Swindon.

Neither look likely candidates from the outside, but they both know their onions, and in the case of Fiddes, they found some problems with my X308 suspension that the main dealer could not find. It was a different car when they had done, and at about 1/3rd the cost of the same job at main dealer.

My X350 is under Jaguar warranty until Jan 2010, so will be easiest to use main dealer (but not in Swindon), but as soon as I can, I will switch back to Fiddes. I already put my second car with them, and as I work in Swindon, they also collect and return my car to the office too.

I had a problem with the check engine light on my old X308 one morning on the way to work, I called them on the hoof, they came and collected my car from work within the hour, read the codes, and traced the issue back to spark plugs, which had not been changed by the main dealer at the 70k service.

Great service, great people and great prices - never feel ripped off.

No affiliations etc.

Even though I'm in Manchester, I use these guys for everything for my car. There are some courtesy cars available too, if you need to move around the area - rather than wait.

Just a suggestion if you're passing that way.
